Brandy and Diana Ross both give an outstanding performance in this touching story of love, despair, regret, and hope.

When Olivia King (Diana Ross) is given an opportunity to develop her singing career, she makes the difficult decision to leave behind her baby daughter.  Years later, now with fame and fortune, but feeling guilty for leaving her child, Olivia tries to come back into the life of the grown-up Kayla (Brandy).

Kay hasn't seen her mother since she was a baby.  Wanting to finally be there for her daughter, Olivia helps Kayla to realize her dreams of becoming a singer.  However, the scars her abandonment left on Kayla make their reunion a very difficult one for both of them.  In the end, though, they finally learn to love each other again.

Both Brandy and Diana Ross deliver extremely emotional, moving, and true-to-life acting.  Their characters are involving and deep.  The turbulence of their relationship is conveyed so believingly, that you'd be best to bring along some Kleenex. I know I needed it.  And I don't cry easily.  (Then again, seeing tears on Brandy's beautiful face always breaks me down; but I honestly believe the movie had a lot to do with it, too.   :)  )

Brandy also looks absolutely lovely, stunningly so, all throughout.  But that should come as no surprise.

The movie also features a great deal of singing, by both Brandy and Diana Ross.  Both ladies demonstrate incredible vocal talent, with powerful songs woven through the film's storyline.

Diane Warren, who also wrote my all-time favourite love song, “Have You Ever,” wrote a particularly beautiful song especially for the movie, “Love Is All That Matters.”  This song is performed as a duet by Brandy and Diana Ross to close out the film on a very strong note.

The DVD version includes Brandy's video, “Almost Doesn't Count,” and Diana Ross' “Until We Meet Again,” in addition to some extra information on the actors.

This is a thoroughly touching story, acted out intimately and skillfully, and accompanied by a wonderful musical score.  It is definitely first-rate, and highly recommended.
